The Open Book Foundation – Great Task That Should Be Recognized
A book is perhaps the most beautiful thing in the life of man, whether a child or an adult. Other things like food, water and shelter are important for survival, and toys are necessary for amusement. But books make a child a true human. How wonderful is the fact that a book can tell a child everything about this miraculous world! It has pictures, colors, amazing stories and a great magic to take us to an altogether different world! Indeed, books are the greatest creation of man. Keeping this in mind, some people are working to provide books to children for free and have donated more than 20,000 books across the US – these are members of a great organization – The Open Book Foundation!
The Open Book Foundation – Short Yet Fulfilling Existence
The Open Book Foundation was founded by Carvent L. Webb II in 2013, in Charlotte, NC. This is a non-profit organization aimed at serving as a bridge between Title I elementary schools and literacy efficiency. They purchase books from their own pocket and donate them. Their existence is short yet fulfilling, because in these two years, they have donated more than 20,000 new books!
The Starting
Before Carvent L. Webb II established The Open Book Foundation, he and his colleagues had a basic question in their minds about how they could provide low-income classrooms with FREE books. The answer to the question was found by Carvent L. Webb II, who is also the author of A Guide to the Simple Life; he decided to donate half of the profit of his book sale to purchasing and donating books to his teacher friends.
The Mission
The mission of The Open Book Foundation is to purchase books and donate them to Title I low-income elementary classroom and also collect books and donate them to outreach programs and community organizations that promote reading. They have a simple mission – One Book, One Child!
They make sure that the books they buy for donating to elementary schools are age appropriate and also content appropriate for the particular grade levels.
Volunteers and Donations are Welcome
Volunteers are always welcome at The Open Book Foundation. They want your help, for achieving the goal of increasing growth and confidence in reading and comprehension. They are sure that their program will make students excited about books and reading, and help them achieve their personal as well as academic goals.
Volunteering as mentors is also required for the children. Therefore you are requested to talk to the children after the reading session is over because it makes a lot of difference.
The Open Book Foundation also encourages 1st and 2nd grade classrooms to participate in their Readers Are Leaders Program. Read more about how the program benefits students on their website www.tobf.org.
Just as they are in need of volunteers, they need donations too. They happily accept all sorts of charity; so, you can donate from books to money. They have partnered with First Book Marketplace where you can purchase books at discounted prices and donate them.
