New Career: Improving Your Life

Every day, I see a lot many people just posting their resumes on a job board or handing it over to a recruiter and then sit back and relax for the opportunity of their dreams to come to them. The economy may be very much flourishing currently but the competition is getting tougher alongside too. Those who work hard and are proactive about getting what you are after, they will eventually get it while you wait.

In order to be more active in the approach of career change advice, here are 3 steps you need to follow diligently to get there:

1. Think all around the situation

Perhaps the biggest of all the mistakes is hunting for a job that provides the exact replica of the position and job description that you had earlier. The rule is to go a level up with the smaller companies and a level down for the bigger ones.

Moreover, there are companies who hire people based on their expertise in a particular area rather than just years of experience. Use it to your advantage while you still can.

For instance, if you have been working at an advertising agency, ensure the organization you apply to happen to have it in-house and similar features that can work things up for you. Get in the industry where you think you can actually fit with those skills.

Although the requirement for a particular job says that you need to be 100% of what they want, a rule to follow is to be at least 75% of it. Additionally, add in things like you are a quick-learner in your resume and that flexibility is your number one trait. Your attitude, confidence and those words there define that you are up for what you don’t currently have.

2. Make a strategic job hunt plan.

You will find it easier if you look for companies whom you know are actually hiring. You can always go to job boards and read about the opened up positions and see which ones interest you and go from there.

The latest trends in your market are also helpful alongside forums which would give you an insight of what a typical day would be like given a certain job role and other valuable information.

Company websites.

Create a list of the companies that you have shortlisted. Don’t forget to visit their website to get the latest insight on the job postings or other announcements that may be of interest to you.

Job boards.

Sometimes job search websites turn out to be fake and notorious and barely provides information on the client they are servicing. Be aware of them and opt for the right ones. You can get detail on them from online job groups and even by searching for top results of your search on Google.

Each website varies in quality of the positions mentioned.

Starting from lower level to senior level, various salary ranges, the types of industries, there are so many things that you will see listed on a particular website and they would vary from one website to another. Some of these websites update very quickly and are active in publicizing as well, these are the ones you should be looking for.

3. Networking is everything.

The #1 way of getting hired today is by utilizing a great deal of your network. Get a referral, get connected to people in the similar profession, stay connected and they might as well hire you or direct you to someone who needs your services.

Reconnect with past employers, clients and even colleagues. They are your network basically, if you have them you have a self-built network. Moreover, go to business networking events and meetings that targets the particular industry you are interested in going.

You really don’t the employer into thinking you are hungry for a job. Instead of this, you really want to represent yourself as someone who is knowledgeable and ready for the job, with a good network and networking skills. Email them information that you think is of their interest and has a good resource like case studies, press releases, websites etc. Invite them to conferences and business networking events.

The goal is creating a pull with the help of your network so that you are known influentially and they are drawn to you.

When job hunting, you need to stay focused, and believe in yourself so that you have a positive uplift around you. Persistence and patience should be your greatest weapons and eventually you will find companies who want you.
