Can Arabic Education be Improved by New Computer-Based Program?

When it comes to the use of technology for the purpose of education, the Arab world lags behind. While a plethora of enjoyable, computer-based English-language resources are present to help learning, this doesn’t hold true for those meant for Arabic language communities.

The web portal, named Al-Adkya, has already had almost 6,000 registrants, and was only launched a couple of months ago. It provides learning activities in 4 fields: Quantitative reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, English and Non-systematic Education, and it is separated into 4 academic segments: online questions and exercises, educational files, multimedia and online lessons. The fifty videos will come under the latter of these segments, and aim to present unconventional ways of learning. They are currently being funded through the crowd-funding website Indiegogo.

The website Al-Adkya claims to represent a swing from conventional learning techniques to modern, interactive techniques that are likely to capture learners’ interest. It’s high time for such a change took place within the Arabic world. However, whether the site is capable of delivering this remains to be seen. It’s possible that it will fall flat, but also possible that it will greatly improve Arabic academic resources.
