1. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore

2. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB)


IITB has achieved 13th place from 16th in the 2016’s BRICS ranking. Founded in 1958, IITB has established itself as one of the leading universities in India. Mainly known for its science and engineering courses, IITB also offers various arts and humanities programs. 4. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD)


IITD is ranked 15th in the BRICS ranking. Originally founded in 1961 as an engineering college, today it features 11 inter-disciplinary centers, it often overlaps science and engineering programs. It has a 325-acre campus located in the picturesque Hauz Khas area, in the south of New Delhi. There are a number of other universities in its neighboring area, including Jawaharlal Nehru University and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).


5. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM)



Ranking 19th position in the BRICS ranking, IITM is another leading Indian university.  Founded in 1959, it has about 8,000 students today and its campus in Chennai is the largest economic, cultural and education center in South India. 6. University of Delhi


The highest ranked non-IIT Indian university is the University of Delhi and it ranks 41st in the BRICS ranking.
