1. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore

 

IISc Bangalore is a specialized public institution which is India’s leader in the BRICS rankings, with 6th place. It even made its debut presence in the overall QS World University Rankings in which it was at the 147th position. Located at the north of Bangalore in the middle of research institutes, IISc Bangalore is regarded as prestigious in the study of technology and engineering. Originally founded in 1909 with only two departments and only 21 students, today IISc has 39 departments on 400 acres and has 3,500 students.

2. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB)

 

IITB has achieved 13th place from 16th in the 2016’s BRICS ranking. Founded in 1958, IITB has established itself as one of the leading universities in India. Mainly known for its science and engineering courses, IITB also offers various arts and humanities programs. It builds connections with peer universities both in India and overseas, so as to enhance its study and research programs. It’s located in the scenic Powai area in the northeast of Mumbai and has about 8,000 students.

4. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD)

 

IITD is ranked 15th in the BRICS ranking. Originally founded in 1961 as an engineering college, today it features 11 inter-disciplinary centers, it often overlaps science and engineering programs. It has a 325-acre campus located in the picturesque Hauz Khas area, in the south of New Delhi. There are a number of other universities in its neighboring area, including Jawaharlal Nehru University and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

 

5. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM)

 

 

Ranking 19th position in the BRICS ranking, IITM is another leading Indian university.  Founded in 1959, it has about 8,000 students today and its campus in Chennai is the largest economic, cultural and education center in South India. 6. University of Delhi

 

The highest ranked non-IIT Indian university is the University of Delhi and it ranks 41st in the BRICS ranking. It’s considered to be one of the best multidisciplinary universities in India, it’s made up of 77 affiliated colleges and has around 132,400 students. Established by the British Indian Government in 1922, it is today one of the largest Indian universities, made of two large campuses, North and South, the latter boasting of 69 acres of picturesque hilly terrain.
