Online Education – Advantages and Disadvantages

In the last decade(s), online education has become increasingly popular. In the beginning, only a few online classes were offered to students, but today there is an increasing number of schools that offer various online degree programs. The question is, is online degree equal to an on-line campus degree? We’ve asked experts in education websites in Pakistan to tell us about the advantages and disadvantages of online education. Here’s what we have found out!

Advantages:

Diversity of available programs – Since many schools offer online programs, the number of available options has increased. Therefore, students are able to search until they find the right program that meets their requirements and wishes.

Schedule is flexible – Although online students need sometimes to be online at a specific time for a test, class or interaction with their teachers, it happens only occasionally. In all other cases, a student is able to log onto their course materials at their convenience, which makes it possible for anyone to keep up with other tasks and responsibilities. Unlike on-campus courses, online education is available around the clock to all students with internet access and a computer/tablet/mobile phone.

No commute involved – As an online student, you can study right from your home, which saves energy, time and money.

Learning at your own pace – As an online student, you can log into your program whenever you like, which enables you to learn at your own pace. In case you have difficulty with a course or certain part of a course, you are free to take more time to study and learn it.

Disadvantages:

No interaction – Online students don’t interact with their fellow students and that can be useful when it comes to studying. Also, the interaction with teachers/instructors is rather limited, because they sometimes need to wait for hours and days for professors to answer their course-related questions.

Technical issues – If there’s any problem with internet or computer, online students might not be able to complete their exams or assignments as required.

Procrastination – If a student needs the push to get to class, online education is simply not thebest choice for them. Doing things in your own pace, for some people means not doing them at all.
